Musing Mondays: Reading time

musing_mondaysHere’s this week’s question:

Do you have a set reading time (before bed, perhaps)? Do you read more at night or during the day? Is there a day of the week, perhaps, that you set aside to catch up on reading?

I definitely do most of my reading at night! Since I’m a 9-to-5 girl, the only opportunity I would have to catch up with my latest read during daylight hours would be on my lunch break — and I’m usually out running errands or catching up with friends.

Without fail, I read every night before bed — sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes two hours. This can obviously get me in trouble . . . if I’ve hit a particularly gripping passage or I’m winding down with the final chapters of a book, I have an intense urge to just finish it already. Hence why I’m often still flipping the pages at 2 a.m. For that reason, I’ve been trying to read more after working out in the evenings — before I hit the hay — so that if I’m really drawn into a narrative, I can finish it before I’m trying to sleep.

I don’t have any particular day to catch up on reading, though I do try to finish a book each weekend. At the moment I’m in the final stretches of Alexandra Potter’s Me & Mr. Darcy, but I just couldn’t wrap it up last evening! So in that sense, this was an incomplete weekend. But I’m heading to the beach soon . . . and you know what means! I can’t wait to hunker down with my ridiculous amount of novels waiting to be read.

  1. I can totally relate with the above. Rarely end up finding time to read during my lunch break, as there are so many odds and ends that need to be done.

And yeah, I get the ‘finish it already’ feeling way too often. I’m not the best employee at work the morning after though. 🙂

Have fun reading at the beach!

  2. Last night my reading got me into trouble. I started the book Thirteen Reasons Why and could not put it down. I stayed up way past my bedtime. Happy reading!

  3. I rarely get a chance to read during the day either…unless I’m waiting somewhere like the doctor’s office or in the airport!

I love reading at the beach…so restful!

  4. I read whenever I can, mostly at night, but I have the Kindle app on my iTouch so if I’m waiting for my meal or at the mechanic or just on my lunch break, I like to whip it out and read.:-)

  5. Ooooh beach reading! I haven’t done that yet, must try it. I can imagine you sitting at the beach with an “in” and “out” pile of novels on either side lol

  6. I read my book at lunch at work. Lately I’ve been so busy I’ve been taking short lunches or skipping lunch entirely which is making it take me forever to get through The Baroque Cycle. Of course it would take forever anyway since it’s so long, but still …

  7. My reading schedule is a lot like yours! I also read a lot in the subway when I go to school, since I have a one hour ride to get there. But, yeah, I’ve often been caught reading wayyy past my bedtime too! 🙂

  8. I do a lot of my reading in the evenings as well and for similar reasons. During the summer when it’s nice out I like to try and get out of the office and sit on a park bench and read during my lunch hour.
